Should You Get Your MBA Abroad
Should You Get Your MBA Abroad GMAT MBA Admissions Blog American business school applicants are increasingly opting to go abroad for their MBAs, and with good reason - there are many advantages to overseas MBA programs. However, there are also drawbacks, and there are numerous factors you will need to consider before making this choice. Overall, the U.S. is still considered the best place to get an MBA; in 2014, seven of the top ten MBA programs (according to the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings) were located in the U.S. For Americans applying abroad, European programs are the most popular. Some of the best-known business schools in the world include London Business School, INSEAD (in France), and IESE (with multiple campuses in Europe). First and foremost, you need to figure out how getting an MBA abroad will fit your long-term goals. You will be building your professional network in a foreign country, rather than at home, and your qualifications (as well as the reputation of your school) may not easily transfer if you decide to return to the U.S. after graduation. However, the foreign language skills and international experience you gain can also be a huge asset in your future career; it all depends on your particular aspirations. Foreign MBA programs may be easier to get into than domestic ones, partially because American applicants are highly valued overseas. They also tend to last a shorter amount of time - one year vs. two years for most U.S. programs - although this advantage is quickly disappearing as more and more U.S. schools offer accelerated MBA programs. You will need to look into the visa application process for the country where you wish to study. Generally, you need a student visa in order to attend school in a foreign country. If you are planning to stay in that country after graduation, you should also find out how strict its immigration policies are, as this may affect your future plans. If you are hoping to obtain employment during school, you may face a number of challenges. Language barriers or a weak job market may limit your ability to find a job, and student visas typically have rules restricting your ability to work. If your visa does allow you to work, you may be limited to a certain number of hours per week. Health insurance is another important consideration. You will be overseas for an extended period of time, so you need to consider the possibility of illness or injury. In some countries, such as the U.K., you may qualify for national health insurance; if this is not the case, travel insurance may be a good option. International MBAs can sometimes be cheaper, but they can also be much more expensive. Do not just consider tuition when evaluating your options; remember to account for airfare, housing, and other living expenses. Factor in the exchange rate, and remember that it may fluctuate while you are there. Websites such as Numbeo and the Expat Forum may be good resources to help you calculate the cost of living. However, there are plenty of opportunities for financial aid, no matter where you go. Find out what kinds of incentives (if any) your school of choice offers to international students. At some schools, you will also be eligible for the same federal aid (including loans) that you could obtain while attending a school in the U.S. In addition, if you have any European ancestry and are planning to study in Europe, obtaining a European passport or Ancestral Visa may give you access to discounted tuition. Finally, you can find many scholarships and other forms of aid on websites such as Go Overseas and the Institute of International Education. Getting your MBA abroad can be a difficult but rewarding process. Do your research, allow yourself plenty of time to prepare, and above all, understand how this will help you advance your career and reach your goals.

China Travel 2.0 Helping travelers get acquainted with China
China Travel 2.0 Helping travelers get acquainted with China Have you ever traveled to a country and wished that you had some local friends to help show you around and deal with the language? Were experimenting with this idea for the China Travel 2.0 tour. China Travel 2.0 is bringing a number of travel editors for a two-week trip through China in early June. Their trip will look at the changes China is undergoing and how technology plays a role in that, with a specific emphasis on technologys affect on travel. When traveling internationally knowing another language is incredibly useful, so when we were asked to help them learn Chinese, we were ready and willing! While Shanghai and Beijing are relatively foreigner friendly, a little bit of travel Chinese can go a long way for enhancing the experience. Imagine not being able to express thanks (xiexie, ??) or say that you dont want to purchase that tourist trinket (dont want, buyao, ??). Specifically, italki is helping the travelers find Chinese teachers through our Language Marketplace. Were also helping the travelers find friends in each of the cities they are visiting, so they can get a local perspective on the best things to experience. When the tour returns to Shanghai, well get our chance to meet the travelers: Craig, Linda, Donna, Julie, Janelle, Marina, and the team at Trip Films. Well be curious to hear all about their experience in China, and we hope they learn some Chinese along the way! 4 Jobs That Offer Flexibility
4 Jobs That Offer Flexibility pexels.com Everyone knows that the goal of (seemingly endless) years of schooling is to get a job. Some of us have dream jobs in mind occupations weâve been planning and working hard for ever since we were young. However, there are sometimes instances when weâve tried out what we thought we wanted, but eventually realized itâs not the path we want to pursue. If you have felt this way at any point during your college career thus far, one reason may be that you want something more flexible. Perhaps your original career path involves a strict schedule with little free time outside of the workday, or maybe the work hours themselves arenât the most productive times for you. Personally, having an internship in a corporate environment this summer has opened my eyes to what kinds of jobs I do and donât want to pursue in the future. Iâm finding that the typical 9-5 office job perhaps isnât the best fit for me, as I would prefer to be moving around and engaging with other people more often throughout the day. Yet, for others, this schedule may sound appealing. Whatever you prefer, there are a number of excellent jobs out there that offer a great deal of flexibility and which will work reasonably well with your own schedule. Actuary Forbes reports that actuaries have the benefits of both lucrative pay and flexibility. If you are interested in mathematics, this may be the job for you: actuaries use statistics and financial theory to assess the risk that an event will occur, and help businesses and clients develop policies that minimize the cost of that risk, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Although some actuaries do follow a standard 9-5 office routine, their jobs often provide a good balance between work and personal life. Additionally, many who work as consultants are able to set their own schedules. My father, who is an actuary, certainly has flexible work hours. As of now, he is able to work from home twice a week; when he goes into the office, he has to complete eight hours for the day but isnât held to specific clock-in or clock-out times. Plus, he always has time after work to spend the rest of the evening with my family and me at home. IT Many jobs in IT, such as information security analysts and managers, are flexible. IT jobs can be found in a variety of industries, so if you are interested in technology-related careers, you have the option to branch out into many different fields. According to Business News Daily, information security analysts and managers work on technical projects, as well as assess, develop, and troubleshoot a companyâs information security systems and programs. What makes IT a flexible career option? Many IT workers are able to telecommute, meaning that they can work from home while using phone, email, and Internet to do their jobs and communicate with colleagues. That way, employees can stay in the comfort of their own homes while getting things done electronically. This may be a worthwhile option to consider if you are comfortable using technology to collaborate with others and are more productive in your own personal space, rather than in an office. Freelance writer This one offers a wide range of possibilities. Freelancers can write for a variety of industries, work from home, and set their own schedules. Oftentimes, they also have the freedom to write about things they are interested in and genuinely care about, which makes their jobs that much more rewarding. pexels.com Graphic designer Flexibility doesnât just refer to the structure of a workday; it can also mean that there are many available options to pursue within a certain field. There are a number of positions within graphic design that are different from the common web design jobs that most people tend to first think of. For example, editorial designers might belong in the publishing or printing industries working on typography and content placement, according to this article on graphic design by Careertopia. If you look hard enough, there are many jobs out there that offer what youâre looking for: good pay, flexible schedule, and work that you genuinely enjoy. While this list serves as a rather narrow springboard for ideas on flexible jobs, you can use it to start thinking about what career path you would like to pursue, while factoring in work schedule and the variety of fields you could delve into.
5 Steps to Complete a Science Project
5 Steps to Complete a Science Project 5 steps to complete a science project Every elementary school student will need to complete a hands-on science project as part of the curriculum. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about the scientific method as well as experience kinesthetic learning. Whether students will present the project directly to the teacher or an entire group of classmates, its important that they know how to go about completing such an endeavor. First, lets take a look at the scientific method as a refresher. I-Formulate hypothesis II-Test predictions III-Collect data IV-Accept/reject hypothesis V-Further develop theories VI-Make observations VII-Ask questions Next, students should determine their topic and start looking at the scope of work. Many students choose a topic that seems fun but then later find out that the research required is too in-depth or that there arent enough sources out there. Students who want to use nature as part of their project may also be limited by the time of year. As a result, students should choose their topic well in advance of the due date and have a couple of backup ideas just in case. Additionally, its important that students choose topics that interest them personally because they will be spending a lot of time conducting research throughout the assignment. Students who are interested in the work theyre doing are more likely to succeed and view science as a fun and important subject (READ: Irvine Math Tutor Tips: Four Math Apps for Young Students). Third, students will need to start carrying out their research and collecting data. Many students will collect water or soil samples or conduct other outdoor data collecting as part of their field research. Students will also need to think about how much online or book research they need to do to work out the specific components of their individual projects. Data collection can take a long time, so its important that students leave themselves enough time in their schedule to get it done or collect alternate data if pertinent. Research is one of the most important elements of science assignments in general thus students are encouraged to ask for help from a classroom teacher, parent, or tutor if theyre struggling to find excellent research methods. Good research habits are learned over time and with ample practice. Next, students may need to readjust their hypothesis based on their findings. Most students set out to prove their hypothesis but, many projects result in students disproving their original theory. If this is the case, students can create a new hypothesis and take their project a step further. Its important for young scientists to note that disproving a hypothesis is just as important as proving one because it advances their particular area of science and helps them understand the scientific method. When using the scientific method, failures often lead to success and should be viewed as a positive thing. Additionally, students will benefit from looking at some famous scientists from years past and discovering that many successful research scientists disproved their own theories time and time again and readjusted their line of questioning before making a big discovery. Finally, students will need to present their project in a clear and concise manner in which their classmates and teacher can understand. The findings should be displayed in a visually pleasing format and be clear enough that another student could repeat the project and get the same results. Being able to repeat a project is a major part of the scientific method and research science in general. Students who have the time and energy can add an excellent artistic element to their science project presentation and learn about the importance of visual communication skills in any particular field. From biology to environmental sciences, our private Orange County science tutors are here to help. Call us today for more information.
